Initial Evaluation

Each athlete who walks through the door at KCSC will begin with an initial screening and evaluation by KCSC’s clinician, Matt Stensrud, DPT. This first day typically takes 60-90 minutes.

During the initial appointment, our staff will take a very close look at previous injury history, training background, sport of choice, individual goals, and more. We focus on:

  • identifying faulty movement patterns

  • addressing movement limitations

  • screening for general athleticism

By the time we conclude with our initial assessment, our staff will have the information needed to design a 100% individualized strength and conditioning and/or throwing program.

supervised training sessions

When you return for your second day with us, you will be handed your first month of training materials. The content will include an individualized warm-up, specific movement training, medicine ball training, speed and agility training, and strength training.

While the first few sessions will be heavily coaching-intensive with lots of 1:1 time with a coach, you will soon become familiar with the training materials and environment as you function within a 4-5:1 client-to-coach ratio – this is a vital aspect of the culture here at KCSC.

Each time a new program is designed with progressions, you will be introduced to the new material. Program design can take time, depending on injury history, in-season or off-season activity levels, and whether or not an athlete is also training at school.

  • We are flexible with clients’ attendance, within reason. If a client signs up for a monthly program and it takes them an extra week or two to finish, there is generally a good reason.

Our billing works on a program-to- program basis. If someone signs up for a 3x or 4x/week program but trends toward once or twice per week, we will simply adjust the next program.

Programs expire after 90 days, which allows for plenty of time to complete a program when life gets in the way.

  • We encourage parents to attend their son or daughter’s initial assessment. When your son or daughter begins their program, we prefer for parents not to be spectators.
